We’ve done a small series of blog posts focusing on real estate agents and the real estate industry. First we discussed the social media platforms in which real estate agents should invest their time, and then we focused on the social media giant, Pinterest, specifically. Today we’re going to discuss how search engine optimization (SEO) can benefit your agency, and ultimately, your bottom line.
SEO is a seemingly ever-changing field, as search engines consistently update algorithms and requirements in order for sites to rank highly in their searches. Yet there are tactics and techniques that will help drive people – potential home buyers and sellers – to your website. Whether you work under a broker or work independently, SEO is an important marketing tool that will help you get ahead of the competition.
Here are a few SEO tips for real estate agents to boost online presence and build an online community.
‘Going mobile’ has become even more essential since Google does not give favorable rankings to sites that are not mobile responsive in the search engine’s search rankings. So, having a mobile-friendly web site is essential, but by optimizing your page and marketing tactics for mobile, you’ll see an even greater impact to your site’s traffic.
In the real estate market it’s all about location, location, location. SEO is quickly becoming the same way. Having a local marketing plan is essential, especially in your field. An easy way to start with local SEO is to make sure all of your information is current, accurate, and identical across all platforms.
Your NAP (name, address, phone number) must be identical across all pages of your website, any directory listing, and all social media accounts. If there are inconsistencies in your information across these platforms, search engines will spot them and will potentially kill your SEO efforts.
Joining review sites like Yelp can also increase your local reach. While opening your business up to reviews can be intimidating, it is an excellent way to engage your current clients and encourage future clients to use your services.
Be Active on Social
In a previous post, we talked about the social media platforms real estate agents should be on in order to build a solid online community. Having an active presence on the various social media outlets, such as Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram, will not only build a community, but also keep your SEO active.
These social media sites also offer excellent opportunities to link back to your web site. You can post a picture of a new listing in your feed and include the link to the whole listing on your web site. Not only does social media help you engage with your community, but also brings added value to your web site traffic.
Creating content in the form of blog articles, ebooks and infographics will also be a huge help driving people to your website. Having a blog is one of the simplest ways to create SEO-rich content. Not only does an active blog show search engines you’re an active business, but blogs also provide quality links that you can share on social media.
You can also do your research and find long-tail keywords (longer, more specific keywords/phrases) your customers search for, then include those in your content. Those long-tail keywords may be more specific, but they also have less competition, which will help you rank higher when someone searches for that content.
SEO is an important marketing tool that will help your current and future clients find your business online. By engaging your community on social media, creating informational content and being consistent with your contact information across all platforms, you’ll soon notice an uptick in your web site traffic, which will ultimately result in more clients finding your services.
